spring-summer 2023

contraste

following the wettest spring in 2022, spring 2023 is shaping to be a dry one , with el Niño declared in September . The soils and the dams are quite full, so we can expect a good season for vintage 24, with conditions more in the style of 2012 . few months in , the Christmas has been very wet and with more than 150mm in Central Victoria , the vintage 2024 will be quite generous but still very early due to the dry spring and early flowering . Little flash back on vintage 2023, which was another cool season, with grapes maturing slowly and able to produce good flavours at low sugar level . No Pet Nat 2023 as the nebbiolo was in short supply , Rose 2023 is based on mourvedre as previous years, the Fiano and greco from the Colbinabbin vineyard is performing very well again , and we had also a good crop of Vaughan Springs syrah , escaping the damaging frost .

Bottling of the 2023 vintage will be in early spring 23 for rose, Mourvèdre and a new grenache from Colbinabbin as well as the new blend of Heathcote nebbiolo-syrah representing the new trend of fresh light reds. We bottled the maison Lapalus Apianum 2022, second vintage of Fiano, which will rest for a few months before release.

The Vin de Paille 2019 has been a real hit and is now sold out. We will be preparing a new vintage of this wine in 2024 .

Stay safe and drink well .
